The Hidden Screener Features that 95% of Investors Don't Use (But Should)
In #Issue 14, you'll learn two things that will boost your investing game up by few notches. Its free and it will takes 2 mins. Okay, maybe three.
You’ll learn two things in this article. First, A screener.in feature that 95% of users don’t even know about. Second, our custom template which breaks down, explains and catches red flags of the past 10 years of data, for any listed Indian Co.
How useful (also cool) would stock analysis be, if you could get:
✅ a company's last 10 years worth of 3 statement financial data,
✅ broken down to customized ratios & metrics to explore
✅ trends, analyze insights & include smoke checks
pulled instantly, to assess whether the Co meets your parameters or is a dud.⚡
If that isn’t convincing, here’s a couple of videos (<1 min) to make the point. Take a Co like Divi’s Lab. When you hit the ‘Export to Excel’ button in Screener,
you get something like this:
However, these are just bland accounting numbers from the P&L, BS & CFS. The magic happens when you have instant insights like these broken into sections for:
P&L Analysis: Checks for fluctuations in margins, depreciation and tax rates
Working Capital Analysis: Receivables, Inventory, payables and Cash conversion cycle
Cash Flow Analysis: Trends of FCF, Capex, fund flow, dividend payout etc.
Forensic Checks: Share dilution, PAT/CFO, asset turns, interst coverage & much more
Something such as this:
Now imagine if this cutomization existed for every Co going forward. Plus you can add and subtract ratios from time to time as you like i.e. the Excel file is entirely customizable.
Define your own ratios, set your preferred data layout, and upload it to Screener.in. This is enabled via “Export to Excel” feature in Screener.in. After enabling, every 'Export to Excel' you download will be instantly formatted to your specifications, with all your custom calculations automatically presented. Your analysis, your rules.
Pretty amazing huh. The 'Export to Excel' feature in screener allows user to do it in 3 steps:
📌 Download a company's financial data
📌 Arrange it in your preferred ratios by linking various financial line items
📌 Upload the updated Excel file in your account in screener
It hardly takes 2 mins to do all of it (shown step-by-step below) except for Step 2 which demands time and precision as you have to arrange the data, look-up important ratios and their formulas, carefully link the cells etc.
We have been using the “Export to Excel” feature for last many years and it has become an essential part of our stock analysis. As such, our template has gone through many refinements over the years which has made it robust.
If you do not want to start from scratch and want a professional grade excel template served on a plate; download my template below👇🏼. I have seen site(s) that charge for templates lesser than this. Don’t take our word for it; check the ‘Analysis’ tab of the excel and find out.
Now if you liked our template or done your own modfications to it, have to link it to your own account. So that, you see the same set of customized ratios for every company’s financials that you download for Screener.
For that follow the three steps:
Download my Excel from above
Make sure to login to Screener.in, go to this link and upload the Excel (check the video)
Pat yourself on the back, you’re good to go.
Hope this helps. Enjoy!
